Default Oblivious to the obvious

This last weekend I was talking with my cousin’s husband who has a cabin next to mine. They both are big time liberal democrats and to be fair I may have baited him into this conversation but it has always been my opinion that one of the biggest weapons that the terrorists have is the media. We were talking about my son Alex and his being in combat when I mention I felt that protesters like Cindy Sheehan are doing more harm to our soldiers than good, and with her and others like her getting so much media coverage will only help our enemy, he then said, how so? I told him that when terrorist see all this radical anti-war, anti-Bush coverage on TV it only encourages them and makes them feel like they (the terrorists) are making head way and thus they continue there attacks. Also when our soldiers see more anti-Bush, anti-war media coverage then coverage on the remarkable progress they (our solders) are making it could make some feel like they are not getting the support at home. Our soldiers should be concentrating on keeping them self’s safe and not worrying about how they are being perceived at home. His responses was “well, it’s a free country” I went on to say, yes, she has the right to protest and no one was saying she didn’t have that right, but I feel that she and others like her are using poor judgment. Well he got mad and stood up and said “well that’s how we did it during Vietnam!” and stormed out. Gezz, I just don’t understand liberals.

It is difficult to understand the mindset of liberals. The way I've found that works for me is to imagine them as lawyers defending a man they know for sure is guilty of a heinous crime. They set aside what is known in favor of proving that what is wrong is OK.

When it comes to liberals and their thinking process one has to wonder if history and what works to defeat conservatives was used in Louisana. Politics as a noble profession to serve the American people has changed. IMO rather than serve the public both parties are in the process of taking America down the tubes. So my suspicion level is raised when history seems to be repeating itself.

History

Florida & hurricane Andrew. Democratic Gov. Lawton Chiles delayed asking for federal help. That delay had an unfavorable impact on the perception of how the federal Gov. responded. Right or wrong finger pointing fell on the side on the federal Gov. being wrong. The republican party shouldered the blame.

Democratic Gov. Blanco did the same after Katrina. Poor decision making or calculated to produce the same effect on the republican party as in 1992?

I am sorry you are related to this guy. He obviously think that what they did during the Vietnam war to shame their country was a honorable thing to do and that they were right and the troops were wrong.

He also sounds like he does not have a clue what human suffering is like, lets see how he reacts to a returning soldier that has seen the mass graves and seen the conditions that Sadams regime has left Iraqs people to live in.

I may be wrong about him, he may be an alright guy, but it sounds like he does not know when not to open his mouth and can not face home truths.

As I've mentioned before, I have both friends and family who are liberals. In fact, in our family this household has produced one of only two families that are conservatives - all my brothers, except the youngest, are liberals and their families are mostly liberal. And this is what the liberals say about the conservatives. That we set aside reality and truth and set about denegrating - "trashing" is really the word they use - all liberals.

One of my dearest friends asked me if I thought Kerry would have handled the entire thing about Katrina as badly as Bush did. I answered I don't know what he'd have done - but it was not Bush who mishandled New Orleans and all that area.

The thing is, liberals believe what they hear from the press - TV (but never Fox), newspapers like the NY Times or the Washington Post - never the NY Post and Washington Times. Each side sees the other as indifferent to the truth they perceive. Then they tell us that the press is right-wing!!

I hope not; that would be criminal as well as insane! To say she needed 24 hours to decide whether to tell people to evacuate when it was so obvious that all hell was breaking loose in a short time? It's bad enough to realize the woman is stupid as a clam - to think she caused the deaths of so many who could have been saved for political reasons is frightening! But possible.

John, don't be sarcastic. If you don't understand why we are as we are, remember only that here we agree - you and we love this nation. One reason is because we are free to have these opinons and to state them. But being sarcastic to friends isn't nice.

I'm sorry.

I apologise.

I just think it wrong to generalise liberals as so - just as it's wrong to call all conservatives knuckle draging neanderthals. Gotta run to work, but I'll certainly expand on me post....
