Default Iraqis May Now Hold US Hostage....

TV Shows Apparent U.S. Hostage in Iraq
1 hour, 51 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - TV pictures on Saturday showed Iraqi insurgents holding a foreigner, apparently American, prisoner in a car after fighting outside Baghdad the day before, the latest in a rash of kidnappings of foreigners in Iraq (news - web sites) during this week's violence.

Meanwhile, a group calling itself the "Marytr Ahmed Yassin Brigades" in the city of Ramadi, west of Baghdad, claimed to have 30 hostages from a variety of countries. A masked man holding an automatic weapon made the claim in video shot by Associated Press Television News.

But the footage showed no images of any hostages, and there was no way to verify the group's claims.

The prisoner, who spoke with a southern American accent and was apparently wounded in the arm, spoke to a cameraman from the back seat of a car with a masked gunman next to him, on the main highway on Baghdad's western edge where fighting took place Friday.

The videotape apparently was shot Friday. The prisoner identified himself as Thomas Hamill to the cameraman, from Australia's ABC television, and said he was part of a convoy that was attacked.

When asked by an ABC reporter what happened, the man said: "They attacked our convoy. That's all I'm going to say."

The car then drove off down the highway with him still in the back seat, passing a burning tanker truck on the road. The prisoner wore what appeared to be a light flak jacket of the sort worn by private security guards, who are often contracted to protect convoys.

Gunmen attacked a fuel convoy Friday in Abu Ghreib on the main highway outside Baghdad, setting a tanker on fire and killing one U.S. soldier and an Iraqi driver.

Insurgents elsewhere in Iraq have kidnapped three Japanese, a Canadian and an Arab from Jerusalem. Those holding the Japanese have threatened to kill them unless Tokyo withdraws its troops from Iraq by Sunday, a demand Japan's prime minister has refused.

A British citizen and two German security officials from their country's embassy in Baghdad are also missing, though it is not known if they have been kidnapped.

That's true, cb; neither your life nor their own. They don't mind dying - Islam as it is practiced by those who closely adhere to the teachings of Mohammad, is a religion of death. Even alive, it's a type of death. The men have a certain degree of freedom, but anything like freedom for women is censored. The moderate Islamic countries will fall in line if they must - they know what to expect. I wonder what will happen to the women who have tasted the amount of freedom those in the Emirates have enjoyed.

My nephew married a beautiful Iranian woman some years ago. She had enjoyed the freedom allowed under the Shah and will never go back to that country now. They have two daughters who are incredibly lovely - and the family is Catholic. She told me once she had seen pictures of Hawaii and wondered at a place so beautiful. That's where they live - in Honolulu.

I'm glad for your nephew's wife. And people wonder why we want to bring democracy and freedom to these people. Many don't even realize they are in a virtual prison because they have never tasted true freedom.

My heart grieves today and I have said numerous prayers for those that are being held.

Since they are so "into" dying, I hope they feel the full wrath of the TRUE God.

Hi cb88
I raed some of your posts. Enough to realize that your views are extreme. And as you know, extremists are never right and dangerous to a civiliced society, regardless the political or religious stand. You will find enough examples in history. Fear and anger, thats what I feel out of your posts, arent good advisors. What do you mean with taking the velvet gloves off? Bombing iraqi citys with MOAB or even mininukes, as you proposed in another thread? Are you out of your mind? Doing that, you would loose all support from the moderate iraqis, as well from your coalition partners, and the mideast would be for a long time a hotbed for westerners. Not ideal to fight terrorism, am I right?

Take care

What I express is extreme, but.....you need to take them with a grain of salt. I am expressing anger, and I don't need to "temper" myself or bring myself back to the middle because I am not the one making the decisions. Lucky for the extreme Islamic Radicals.

Maybe you should tell that to your Islamic pals that keep taking civilians. I've NEVER advocated intentionally killing civilians. I have acknowledge that there will be some unintentional "collateral damage", an unfortunate part of war. I have defended that in saying we are being too cautious as opposed to the DELIBERATE targeting of civilians and innocents by the "other side".

Fear, to some degree, yes...but not so that it clouds my judgement. I fear more innocents getting targetted by a savage religion that cares only about death and has no regard for life.

Anger, **** STRAIGHT....there are a breed of people out there that are extreme in their religious views and want to kill us because they think their way of life is right. WE never started this, but you can be sure we will finish it.

While I have made statements about MOABs and mininukes, I also know they are not realistic options. HOWEVER, tactical & surgical strikes, more special forces and total elimination of all insurgents (leaving the innocents) is most definitely within our abilities and THAT is what should be done.

I'm not a military strategist, so I don't know how to go about achieving that, but if it's a battle of "us or them" well, I'd rather it be them. I can't imagine living in a world governed by their religion and ways of life.
