| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has published an ad in several California newspapers to promote peace between Christians and Muslims. "Like Christians," it says, "Muslims respect and revere Jesus. Islam teaches that Jesus is one of the greatest of God's prophets and messengers to humankind. Like Christians, every day, over 1.3 billion Muslims strive to live by his teachings of love, peace, and forgiveness. Those teachings, which have become universal values, remind us that all of us, Christians, Muslims, Jews, and all others have more in common than we think." I support efforts to diminish prejudice and build bridges, but not under false pretenses. CAIR would do more to promote peace by confronting and repudiating the roots of Muslim hostility toward Christians. It could start by denouncing some recent incidents of Muslim persecution of Christians around the world. One notable site of this persecution is Egypt. "I have received so many letters," said the patriarch of Egypt's Coptic Church, Pope Shenouda III, in a speech last week, "about what's happening to the Christian girls who go to supermarket stores to shop. At the store they tell them that they have won and have to go upstairs to receive their award or prize. After that we don't know what's happening to these girls upstairs." [Emphasis mine] More here at: http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=3454

| Senior Treadhead ![]() | Actually it is religion of peace! A long time ago I remember studying some of the Qu'ran. A passage that shone like a beacon was one that instructed followers to "Love all the brothers of The Book, Muslim, Jew, and Christian alike." Somehow militant clerics, and nutjobs (yes, there it is again, Nutjobs) have forgotten passages like this one and done their own interpretation of others. All they have accomplished is bastardizing their own religion into a modern day Inquisition.....

In 9:30 it speaks of those who "believe that Christ is the son of Allah (i.e., God)" are under a curse. Read Martin Ling's book about Muhammad... it's from Arabic sources, but non-Koranic. It shows how he would change his mind about sparing, the executing infidels. Sorry, Our Lord Jesus Christ never wanted anyone executed.

| Senior Treadhead ![]() | Sorry, it's been a very long time, and I seem to be entering upon that stage where some things are fuzzier than others, so my reliance on the ol' memory banks may be in jeopardy, lol. But I don't think that it was a message of acceptance of another religion. If my memory serves correctly (uh oh), it was a suggestion of tolerance of other human beings. Now the passage you list here may very well be an example of one of the ones that these extremists use to their advantage. I could interpret it to mean that Christians are misguided and cursed, at least until one of Allah's children can open their eyes and enlighten them. Orrrrrrr, I could take it to mean that all Christians are cursed, and the only way to rid the world of this curse is to kill all those that fall under it. See what I mean? The way I had always seen it, Islam was not a militant religion per se, it was just another group of followers that interpreted the Bible differently (much like the differences between the Jews and Christians), and splintered off from the intertwined history that was the cradle of civilization. But we are in the midst of an upheaval. The Muslim world has those that are intolerant of anyone that doesn't believe and live the way they do. And the attitude is "If you aren't with me, I'll kill you."

| Senior Treadhead ![]() | I believe that more now than ever. I just finished a book called Perpetuated in Righteousness. It is an in depth look at ancient Hawaiian beliefs and history and how they tie in with the history of the world. I found it incredible that a society as far removed from the Old Testament as the Polynesians, had ancient chants about things like the man Nu'u. He was a man that The Creator, Io, told to build a great canoe. He built this canoe just like Io had told him, then went a brought all the animals........ But I digress. This short intermission brought to you by your friendly neighborhood race-mutt, lol.
