Else you accept the proposition that someone else has the right to your life, even when you have comited no crime - other than being male aged between 18-65. If you accept that individual rights are supreme, the state can be empowered to take away your rights only when you have encroached the equal rights of others. For any other reason is immoral - even the hypocritical argument of "in defense of freedom". If the draft is ok in America, then it's ok in places like Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, China and even Iraq. All young people, even in those countries, were drafted for the purposes of "defending freedom". No body is saying military service is bad or wrong. Only that "enforced" service of anykind is wrong. The ends donot justify the means. Human beings aren't a means to an end, but an end in themselves. Products are the end results of actions. How can the product be good when the action is not?

| Crew Dawg ![]() | Serving in the American armed forces is not forced labor. It is serving in the American armed forces in time of need, to defeat an enemy who has been identified by our duly-elected Congress and Administration du jour.

I'm saying "enforced" service IS. But we digress - perhaps the thread can be split/old thread can be brought up?
