| Bandaids and Beer ![]() | How is it that the Russian Proverb goes? "hope for the best; expect the worst" Personally, I think it would either be a stadium event or something to do with one of our ports. |

| Junior Officer ![]() | I'd say damage to the electrical grid. The same explosive techniques used for underwater demolition can be used on the surface. Ever see those silver threads of high power wires off in the distance. Thousands of miles of wires & towers strung out across the remote areas of America. Hunters often use the right of ways to get back into deep woods, or maybe no one notices an activity like that. Imagine if you will a 4 W/D vehicle loaded with explosives going from tower to tower setting up a chain of destruction. What would happen when high power lines are toppled ? Power plants have technology in place to shut down generation. No generation no power to every facet of our daily lives. That is economic chaos at it's finest. What about restoration? Those towers are specially built. Those towers take days to truck to remote locations like the deep woods. Those towers depending on the engineering requirments could be set at a height of 180 feet which means an access ramp of 30 feet or more would have to be dozed into place. Strategic placement all over America could easily wipe out power distribution for months. Best time of year would be winter with home heating dependent on power. Gas & oil units still need power to circulate the heat. Then there is the thought that it wouldn't take suicide to place explosives. All in all destroying the electrical grid would entail the least amount of explosive devices, least noticeable activity, no suicide by perpetrators and IMO create unprecendented chaos in financial, home comfort, food distribution, heath care. In short every thing we've come to need from electricity. Forgot to take into account the life saving operations that would have to be delayed or not done due to not enough power to assue full time operating room efficiency. Then there is the matter of home respirators, oxygen processing plants, and other devices that depend on electricity. Sure there are back up generators but it takes fuel to run them. Gas stations need electricity to run pumps. No gas puming capability no home generators/generation. Pumps needed too to transfer fuel of all kinds to tank trucks. No diesel fuel no truck transportation of foods. I doubt there are that many emergency generators sitting ready anywhere that could handle the massive need. Even something as routine as not stopping for traffic lights which aren't operating any more or heart attacks from walking to work and then walking up 50 flights of stairs to sit in a poorly lit office would claim life. They could think small and attack a few cities with loss of life by their own or take time to plan!!! Geez it's been awhile hasn't it. Anyone have some Amish dutch friends that could rent a barn for awhile?

I opt for the chemical/biological warfare in several major cities at once.....well, not opt for, that's not a good word...that is my guy feeling as to what they will try. Though, sources say that it's possible they will strike small rural towns where it will strike the most fear because people in small towns seem to think they are safe. Something like happened in Czechnia [sic] with the school. The departments are unprepared, volunteers and it would strike fear into everyone in the nation who would no longer feel safe ANYWHERE. though, small town rural Texas probably wouldn't be a good idea...every Bubba in the world would bring out their arsenal. ![]() | |

| Bandaids and Beer ![]() | I remember the first winter I spent in OK, we had a really bad Ice Storm, and had no electrical power in town (on my block at least!) for over three and a half weeks. Thank God we had gas heat and stove and hot water heater, but many others had to go to shelters..whereas we just had bad 'cabin fever', and the kids and I prolly would've killed each other if not for monopoly! ![]() But now the home we live in while it has a gas stove and hot water heater has central heat and air..but we do keep stocked on candles and kerosene for lamps, in the dead of winter, I can see how there might be a problem..there is a LOT to be said for fireplaces.. A highburst EMP in winter could have devastating consequences.. |
