Default Out of Touch

I know I’m out of touch when I can’t see the logic of particular things. My latest out of touch moment comes in the form of the planned protesting.

According to media reports several thousand people are going to go to Washington D C to be able to stand and turn their backs on Pres. Bush. Part of the protest involves the expense of the inauguration. Others are there to protest the policy or action that makes it possible for them to be able to do this.

Somehow it doesn’t make sense to me to take off work, bear the expense of traveling to and being in Washington D C to complain about waste of money.

One person protesting or a million lined up won’t make any difference. IMO the only value will be. People employed by the media will have something to photograph and write about for a few days. It seems ludicrous that 30 to 40 years from now when they have a grandchild looking at old news clippings ask “which back is yours?”

There's no logic to it, Brian - and you are a most logical person. People get in a frenzy about things and make meaningless noises about it. The money they are throwing away to protest the needless throwing away of money could go to charity and do some good. They will go home cold, angry and frustrated, because that which they are protesting will have gone on right on schedule.

Why is this childish mindset becoming so much a part of the American scene?

Petulent and immature people who just won't accept that they lost the election. Not only that, but voters gave control of both houses of Congress to the Republican Party. Now they are throwing a temper tantrum.

Some people have too much time on their hands. If they would just rally under the victor and deal with the real issues at hand I believe that America and the world in general would be a better place. You get a chance to vote things different in four years anyway. Semper Fi!!

Let's face it, a million would make a difference, it would get peoples attention if the protest was that strong. Note a marked difference in anything real other than getting ones attention. Even the idea is a good contrast, in relation to the Middle East and what their "governments" have provided a voice to the people in that part of the world we are currently embroiled in and would no doubt be the primary reason for protest in the first place (but there are other issues as well, I'm sure) Trying to impart to most folks the idea of peaceful protest, the idea of even voting in an election represented by your own freely elected govenment is a daunting chore, and without security and a lawless enemy who butchers innocent captive quite tricky indeed.

I think greater concerns are security, not protestors, and no chances are being taken. There are an army of motorcycle cops. cops on horseback, secret service, plainclothes cops, not too mention uniformed military personnel, and the amazing things is everyone in some huge downtown area (already detertmined, like 20 blocks in any direction of the motorcade) gets checked with a metal detector, including all of the marching band, all of the portestors, all of the spectators, everyone. Big time security.

When have Liberals ever been logical? Look who they vote for!

I've always felt that the people who get involved in this kind of thing are people who'll ***** about anything. Give them an idea of a 'cause' and they want to get out there to march and wave signs. They thrive on anger and indignation.

For some, certainly. Protesting may be a way of life for some people, who would be protesting Kerry or whoever else was in office.

But one may never know the level of "protest" anyway as most of them wouldn't be permitted through a phalanx of security and will be quietly shuffled out of sight of any cameras. The security precautions cast a wide net.
