| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | Investigate? What's to investigate? It's genocide. Ask Collin Powell. This reminds me so much of 1994 in Rwanda, but only on a slightly lesser scale. People get killed while politicians and UN diplomats sit around in air conditioned offices wrangling over legalisms and definitions of Genocide. It's an artfull way of doing nothing, which is what they want to do: NOTHING!! People sometimes talk about the Clinton policy in Rwanda in 1994 as a failure to act to prevent genocide but what it really was was a success. The plan was to do nothing and in this regard, it suceeded magnificently. It's happening again. Never Again? |

Next will be to draft a resolution to condemn genocide if they determine that to be what is happening when the investigation process is completed. The resolution wording will take several months, then be submitted to appropriate international committees for review. That will take several more months. By the time the process is completed those that were still alive will have been put to death which will start a new round of investigations by the UN. If for no other reason the attack on Iraq focused the attention of the world on the inaction of the UN. The message that glares out at the world is. If you are poor & unable to defend yourself don't expect the world commuinity via the UN to take proactive action to right a wrong. Really frustrating to me is the complaint that America butts into the internal affairs of other countries but when something like this arises the expectation suddenly becomes for America to resolve the situation. Those same people that say butt out have no problem condemning America either way. I say they are part of the problem & will never be part of the solution, they don't have the capacity to accept responsibility.

| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | In 1994, we couldn't act in Rwanda because we had just gone through the debacle in Somalia. Or so some thought. In 2004, the "reason" is Iraq. The cheerleaders of the Iraq war say, "We can't save the world." Result: Genocide in Africa while the world, and the US, stands by. It's frustrating. It's sad but it's true. Nobody cares when it's Africans killing Africans and there is no oil, or geopolitical gain to be had. Is there still such a thing as a pure humanitarian mission? |
