It's about time that someone other than us(the U.S.) showed terrorist, that you can't take one `of our soldiers and expect us to back down.A really big HOOAH to the brave soldiers of Israel.Like one of our patches say."God will judge our enemies......We'll arrange the meeting"

I agree that they should, but they won't. The UN is busy condemning Israel for overreacting right now. I haven't heard them condemn the terrorist groups for kidnapping the soldiers and lobbing rockets into Israel. I haven't heard them condemn the suicide bombers for their attacks on innocent Israeli women and children in restaurants, shopping malls and buses either.

God bless the Israelis and protect them

Amen.

The UN is echoing what is coming from Europe, of course. The world hates that tiny nation. It's the thorn in the side of the world today - and that is very interesting. There's good reason for it in Islam - they are taught that hate from infancy. It seems that most Europeans share that teaching, but it has nothing to do with religion for them. It's jealousy. For centuries the Jews were living among them, treated as second-class citizens and have proved themselves to be courageous, highly intelligent and capable of coping with life no matter what was done to them. They are survivors - and they will continue to be survivors. They will not be trampled down by the enormous and multitudinous neighbors there who are out to slaughter them. You really have to admire their courage and dedication for survival. A stiff-necked people and that is one reason they continue, millennium after millennium.

I don't see this as Europeans influencing the UN. The Africans, Asians, Arabs etc don't support Israel either and they are the majority of the members in the UN. The UN supports dictators and Israel is a democracy - and filled with Jews that the influential countries of the ME want out of existence.

Sorry I have to be on the other side of the fence for this one people. I do think that the Israelis are not reacting proportionately.
From a strategic point of view, Israel's operation is too small to be an all out war, but more importantly, way too big to leave room to gain any diplomatic leverage. Military operation by itself cannot achieve anything other than the elimination of enemies. Clearly Israel's current operation is not to wipe Lebanon of the map. Therefore, if Israel's action is to make any sense, then it would have to be implement with other form of political actions, which is likely to be diplomacy. Plain bombing of civilian structure is hardly going to "scare" or force their opponents into submission, instead it would just fuel the already high hatred against Israel. Instead of bombing the civilians of Lebanon, which hardly has any adverse impact on the actual culprits, they should perhaps launch a kipnap operation as well and exchange the prisoners. It appears that Israel's military has run amok and failed to work with the other tools of the Israelis government.

You see, the problem is that you are thinking rationally, as if these were two western nations who think the same. What Israel is dealing with is about what you would find if you had only a small stick and suddenly came face to face with a rabid pit bull.

Hezbollah won't negotiate with Israel. It's a bit like Arafat, in that it will possibly agree to anything, but the ultimate aim is to eradicate Israel, so no matter what smiling face you may see, no matter what they may agree to, that aim does not change.

Israel is tiny. One soldier is vital to them because of the limited number they have, but more, because they believe in life and those men in Hezbollah believe in death.

Israel may be a bit overly enthusiastic in its reply - but only as it goes into Bierut instead of concentrating on that part of Lebanon that is held by Hezbollah. On the other hand, Bierut is part of that territory.

God help the poor Lebanese, who are held prisoner in their own land.
