Einstein/SUNY Stony Brook/Rutgers team find quantifiable love responses in fMRIs of 17 young people who were newly, madly in love. Intense love was a strong basic reward "drive" very different from sex, the New York City-area team (neuroscientist, anthropologist, social psychologist) shows.

Two big surprises: fMRIs changed markedly over time, and activation regions (including the VTA) associated with intense romantic love are mostly on the brain's right side. Links seen to stalking, suicide, depression, autism.
