| Razak's Roughneck ![]() | There are some good points in that article but I'm inclined to believe (and my gut feelings seem to support my rational brain on this) - that those protesters are protesting about 'nothing'. Yes, stress and competition are bad. But is the real life any less stressful and competitive? And as for that load of bollocks about marginalising "minorities" - I'm a minority. I'm studying American History as one of the classes. I know more about the Civil War than many American students do! I'm not bragging - I'm just pointing out an observation. Any student who thirsts for knowledge will find these kind of "minority excluding" arguments ridiculous and irritating. Given a curriculum or data to read and prepare on, it shouldn't matter WHAT it is - prepare for it and pass the test. Why is this so hard to do? Do we say that learning Pythagoras Theorem unfairly promotes Greeks? Or that Planck's Constant reinforces German hegemony in education? ![]() Yes, I have a problem with whitewashing history to display things in a new, unwarranted light. Yes, most standardised testing excludes many things of the minorities. But they are missing the whole ****ed point - it's called STANDARDISED testing. Here, let me spell it out for them : S-T-A-N-D-A-R-D-I-S-E-D- -T-E-S-T-I-N-G. The definition of standardised is "brought into conformity with a standard". Notice the word "conformity" - pray tell me how will "individuality" fit in with "conformity" ? ****ing morons!
