| Cricket ![]() | I think this is just wrong I feel bad for the girl Why was the father allowed to graduate? he was no better then her heck she did not get pregnant by herself and another thing this is the year 2005 not the 1800's ![]() On a brighter note I think it was great how she announced her own name Preg. student defies grad. ban! A pregnant student who was banned from graduation at her Roman Catholic high school announced her own name and walked across the stage anyway at the close of the program. The father of the child, also a senior at the school, was allowed to participate in graduation. http://www.cnn.com/2005/EDUCATION/05....ap/index.html

| Sabot Slinger ![]() | SAFETY CONCERNS???? WHAT SAFETY CONCERNS???? What I REALLY don't understand is why they thought it necessary to have the girl's Mom and Aunt escorted out of the Church by the police. To the school I say ![]() ![]()

| Junior Officer ![]() | I could see where safety could be a concern, especially in the litigous society we have now. The school administrators most likely were concerned but somehow I don't see that as the real reason. I see it more as their high moral position should call for her not appearing. That and decided that she should be punished. But to be PC they didn't phrase it as punishment but as a "safety concern" . This isn't the 1st. nor will it be the last girl to get pregnant in high school. The differance here is she completed her course of study. That alone puts her ahead of many. I have to wonder about high morality or at least the perception attemp at showing it. What message does it send when a religion based school can't recognize human failings and in the interest of "safety" assist this girl onto the stage and off again? Are we to presume that if she sat in the audience & didn't walk on stage no one would know she was pregnant? None of her classmates would know? As a good catholic she was probably following the edict to go forth & multiply. She missed a step in the process of getting married 1st. As for the police escort for her relatives they probably saw through the safety claim and may have stood up to help her safely onto & off of the stage. How rude of them to want to recognize the importance of their child completing school.

| Monkey Mouse ![]() | It's a private school and they can set their own rules, however, there is a double standard and that is just plain wrong! Quote:

I completely agree with you WM there is a double standard in this situation. I can see the double standard. The disguise as a safety concern might have worked if the father was not allowed to receive his diploma on stage. Both seated would reflect the schools values.
