| NCO ![]() | I want my hour back! Want more time, rather than change clocks, get up an hour erly, because that is what you are doing. Example. When it's 3 a.m. Standard Time, it's 4 a.m. Daylights Savings Time. We're stuck with DST since the politicians legislated time change. We all know Washington, D.C. is better at wasting other stuff, but not saving time. They and the rest of America can't wish away the constant reality of astronomy. Anyway, our beloved congressmen and women have spent most of the last century claiming the customary constraint to conserve daylight. Did you know the first DST was started in 1918? Congress passed the first DST measure. In 1919, they turned over the statute. During World War II, President Roosevelt enacted DST, year round for three years. Then in 1966 Congress authorized the DST for the entire nation. Again DST was changed when President Nixon imposed DST for 15 months to save energy. Last time DST was changed when President Reagan moved up the start date on the first Sunday in April.

| Junior Officer ![]() | I believe the 1st change was to enable farmers and their children more daylight time to work the fields. Since we are no longer an agricultural based society there isn't a need for the time change. Everything from employment to children waiting in the dark for a school bus is affected by this useless change of time. Have to say though that it doesn't affect my life at all. I go to bed when I'm sleepy & get up when I wake up but not until I feel like getting out of bed.

![]() | Actually the electric light usage is almost the same no matter what "time" it is. All businesses keep thier lights one when they are open (or have someone working before/after hours). So changing the time by one hour does nothing to change the amount of electricity being used for lights. Since the summer days are now "shorter" and the hot nights are "longer" there is more use of household ac systems. So now during DST there is actually an increase in household usage of electricity. Only residential properties electric light usage changes. DST sucks. It's an outdated useless practice that needs to be dropped. |
