Actress makes donation to American Red Cross

NEW YORK (AP) -- Actress Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help relief efforts in countries affected by the deadly earthquake and tsunamis in southern Asia and eastern Africa.

Bullock, whose screen credits include "Miss Congeniality," "While You Were Sleeping" and "Speed," contacted the American Red Cross last week, the organization said Monday.

She also donated $1 million after the September 11 terror attacks.

"At this critical time, I am grateful to Sandra Bullock for once again demonstrating her leadership, compassion and belief in our global humanitarian mission," said American Red Cross President and Chief Executive Officer Marsha Evans in a statement.

"Sandra continues to enable our lifesaving work and is a model for personal generosity."

Didn't know about the first million, and this one definately adds to her social appeal. I've always liked her.

I am glad to see that the wealth is being shared in a good way. Glad to see unselfishness as John said. Not to many people would do something like this the only other person I could think of would be Oprah, but she has all the money in the world to give out.

I did not know about the first million either, but that is the sign of a true good heart, giving and not having to go around and saying look what I did. I wonder if any of the way left liberals are going to help out. After all they are supposed to be the ones that are supposed to be worried about all humanity. BIM

And Roberts and Diaz get paid even more than Bullock (20m per film), while the likes of Schwarzenegger probably get twice as much, so here's hoping they dig deep. Though you have to assume that a fair number of stars will donate privately and manage to keep it a secret. Not getting at Bullock, just saying that the people donating will not be confined to those we know about...

Since we all didn't know about the first million, my guess would be that Sandra did do this in secret but someone at the Red Cross was a blabber mouth to the press. Note the story says the source was the Red Cross.

I heard that Ozzy donated $150,000...not that it is not appreciated, but, umm, come on Ozzy, you can dig a little deeper than that! Although, who knows, he could be stretching it thin these days.

I've always loved Sandra Bullock and her movies...she seems like such a genuine person. "Girl next door" and a goofy kind of funny. I would gather she didn't do this for show.
