Arab newspaper says medical student killed 22 people

CAIRO, Egypt - The suicide bomber who killed 22 people when he blew himself up in a U.S. mess hall in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul was a Saudi medical student, an Arab newspaper reported Monday.


The Saudi-owned newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat identified him as 20-year-old Ahmed Said Ahmed al-Ghamdi, citing unnamed friends of the man’s father. The friends said members of an Iraqi resistance group contacted al-Ghamdi’s father to tell him his son was the suicide bomber who carried out the Dec. 21 attack, the deadliest on an American installation in Iraq.

The father refused to discuss the suicide bombing, but told the newspaper his son had gone to Iraq to fight the Americans and had died there. The family held a mourning ceremony the paper said. It did not say when the ceremony was held or where in Saudi Arabia the family lived.

The Associated Press was unable to reach Saudi security officials for comment despite repeated telephone calls Monday.

The U.S.-led coalition that toppled Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has faced fierce resistance, most of it carried out by Saddam loyalists or Iraqi nationalists. Some of the deadliest attacks, though, have been blamed on non-Iraqi Muslim extremists.

Somehow, I don't find this at all surprising.

I wonder if he was on the most-wanted list of the Saudis. Why are we allowing any Saudis anywhere near our troops? In any capacity? May be unfair, but who cares?

No, his son went to fight for the reinstatement of a brutal dictator and his sadistic followers. He died in a cowardly attack on soldiers. No honor there.

What kind of "medicine" is being taught here? "How to kill the most amount of people with the least amount of effort?

This is not surprising, but there is more to the story taht is not being told as well. Not sure if they do not want it to be told or what. Remember how I told you my mothers cousin was over tehre in that area and I thought he could have been killed. Well he was not instead he was in the sky he is a blakhawk pilot. He saw the explosion and a round that was shot into the top of the tents. There may have been a suicide bomber but there was also incoming fire taken. I am not sure why this is not being broadcasted, but my moms cousin has not only told my grandmother and my mother and his father buit many more people about the incoming round he saw. He went after them shortly after it was fired but they were no where to be found. I wonder if they willl ever tell anything of this or just rule it off as only a suicide bomber?
