Default I have a question???

I am not sure where to start, but we will see where it takes me??? I am currently in the Army. I have been coming up on 16 years. Active 88-92, the rest Reserve and NG. I was considering switching over to the Navy. I know all the Army people are going WHAT!!!!!! Have you LOST YOUR MIND!!!!!
Here is the deal. I have been a Tanker (19K) my entire military career but would like to go into a different field. One reason is the re-org the NG is going thru has eliminated my MOS close to my home. I would have to drive 2 or more hours to attend drill. Another is I am getting older, enough said on that.
I come up with this crazy plan while in Iraq. I wanted to switch over to the Navy as a Culinary Spec. I know that is just a glorified name for "cook", but that is what I want to do. I would stay in the Army and do it, but while in Ft. Gordon on Med Hold I run into several Army cooks. The Mess section in the Army is about over according to them. The Army contracts everything out anymore. The Iraqi's did the mess over there. There were a couple of E-6's, E-7's doing the overwatch, but that was about it.
I talked to a Navy Recruiter while home on leave and he took my name and # but that was about it.
I guess my question on this forum is is there any Navy cooks out here or do you know of any that could give me some kind of insight to this chosen path? Is it something I would want to pursue? What exactly am I looking at??
