CO of NRD Los Angeles Relieved of Command
Navy News Service
June 10, 2005

WASHINGTON - The commanding officer of Naval Recruiting District Los Angeles, Cmdr. Robert Gaines, has been relieved of his duties by his immediate superior, Capt. Dave Arnold, commander, Navy Recruiting Region West, Oakland, Calif.

Arnold ordered the relief June 7 because he had lost confidence in Gaines' ability to successfully carry out his duties.

The executive officer at Recruiting District Los Angeles, Cmdr. Rob Desantis, has assumed command of the district.

Gaines had been commanding officer of Navy Recruiting District Los Angeles since April 2004. Approximately 260 Navy people are assigned to the district, which geographically encompasses metropolitan Los Angeles, Hawaii, Guam and Japan.
