Default [MV] 4th of July...

Greetings List,

At the risk of interrupting the new "Cannibalism" forum, I thought I
might swing things back to that hobby we all seem to be interested in...

What sort of things are you doing with your MVs for the 4th of July?
Parades? Displays?

I'm going to put my M35 in my town's parade for the first time, along
with other members of the MV club I belong to. Just curious what other
things folks like to do with their vehicles.

Thanks,
Sean Nichols

I'm thinking of taking the ferret out of course.

Suggestions that I have used for 24 years in parades now:

SMILE...... and have everyone else in the HMV do the same.

Make eye contact with a young child or elderly person. They
are usually ignored by patrticipants.

Periodically look where you are going..... Keep your distance!

Be prepared for some ignorant jerky teens/kids that throw
things. I was taking a tight corner last year in a very large parade
in Lexington Mass with my CCKW towing the 57mm AT
gun when something hit my cheek, bounced off my lap and exploded
on the floor! It was one of those things the junk vendors sell that
explode when they hit the ground.... Imagine it hitting a horse in the
eye....

I called Lexington about this and they told me they are illegal in
Mass... Lota good it did me. I may try a different approach in the
future and try to buy some and if they sell them to me get the police!

I am driving my 1952 M38A1 with 3 OLD Veterans in a local parade. It is
always great to hear the spectators calling them from both sides of the
streets.

Arrowhead Chapter members are, at last report, supporting 3 parades this
saturday

Dallas, Burleson and Graham, Texas By attending a parade close to home
we can " divide and conquer " so to speak. 2 of our more intrepid
members are driving an M135 and a WC 1/2 ton weapons carrier to Graham,
Texas to support their parade and carry some WW11 vets in the parade.
Somewhere around 60, or more, miles each way.

We usually have between 12 and 20 vehicles turn out for the Burleson
event. I try to attend each year since there are only 2 Vietnam era
vehicles in the chapter: my M35A2 and an M151A2 shown by a retired col.

I have always been deeply touched by the response to my M35 from the 'Nam
vets and their families at the parades. Last year on Veterans Day in
Fort Worth a group of 1st Cav vets came to attention and as a unit gave
me a thumbs-up. 2 years ago in Fort Worth, as we approached the
reviewing stand, an elderly disabled vet in a wheel chair on the side
walk pushed himself to his feet and saluted. My wife asked if I was O-K
'cause I had tears running down my cheeks and was having a little trouble
seeing the road.

Makes it all worth it when things like this happen.

P.S. And I love the little kids who, just watch in awe as the old war
horses pass by.

Sorry list,

Forgot to include what's happening after the parade. My M35A2 will be in
my front yard with flags flying for all to see. I live on a busy
highway, out in the country. We may drive it to town to watch the anual
fireworks display sat evening.

I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable 4th.

Be carefull out there,
