| Civilians | Hello all, Well I am at a bit of a loss tonight. We had a tone out for a MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) with injuries, so I went to go start the M1009. Wouldn't start. Just cranked over. Ended up taking the parents '02 GMC seirra which got me there faster. Anyways, yesterday the truck ran like a top. About 2 weeks ago, I had a problem with the truck when I would manually glow for 10-12 seconds, crank it, and it would crank, catch a bit, then not fire off, and then crank, catch a bit, crank and catch a bit. This is all holding the starter down for 4-8 seconds. It would finally fire off. I thought it might be the glow plugs, so I replaced all 8 with AC13G's. Truck started a ton better after that. Its been in the mid to high 30's some mornings, and its always fired off better than it ever has. Like I said, yesterday it was running great. This morning I went out, and went to start it. It did the crank, catch, then crank some more, and then catch about 8-12 times then fired off in a cloud of smoke. I went to work, went home for lunch, same thing, maybe a bit worse after sitting at work for 4 hrs. At lunch I went to head back, and it fired off ok after lunch after sitting for an hour. After work, fired it up, again hard to start, and a nice cloud of smoke when it fired off. After I got home from the call I check to make sure all glow plug connections were on, and tried again. It just cranks and shoots somewhat white smoke out the tailpipe, a good amount of it, and doesn't even catch now, just cranks and doesn't fire off. The smoke reeks of unburnt diesel fuel. I took the wire off the top of the IP, turned the key on, and hooked the power wire back up, and heard the solinoid click. Could this be the fuel pressure switch? I was told that is a possiblity. Kind of wierd that it would go away right after I changed the gp's. Anyw way to rule out the fuel pressure switch of test it? It was cold and rainy the last few days, and today it warmed up a bit, why would it not start when its warmer? Very wierd. I will greatly appreciate all replies, as I need to have this back on the road asap. Thanks so much!
