| Civilians | No MV content but interesting? Well if we are talking about how to do "rapid fire" how about this. Many years ago I was talking to a gentleman at our military vehicle display and it turned out he had been in the 1st Special Service Force (Devils Brigade) he talked at length about his experiences (wish I had taped recorded the conversation). The one thing I do remember was his description and demonstration of rapid fire with a Mk 4 Lee Enfield. What they were trained to do was hold the rifle in their left arm butt up against the body trigger finger on the trigger. They then worked the bolt with the right hand. The rapid fire part came about working the bolt with the right pulling the trigger with the left hand. He said that the trigger was pulled just as the bolt was pushed into the lock position. You did not lock the bolt all the way down, you cycled the bolt back up as the trigger was pulled. He said that the bolt would shoot back, you would then slam the bolt forward and repeat till the magazine was empty. He said you could put a whole lot of lead down range, no accuracy but then the idea was to keep the other guys head down while you advanced. I certainly don't 'need' a full auto or a .50, but I see no reason to pay a ridiculous $5000-7000 for a semi. I like me big guns cheap! well.. I guess it's the hellfire triggers for the rest of us.. And here's the stupid gun trick of the week: Grasp and support your semi-auto rifle with left hand by the front stock, and let the rear rest on your right arm, trigger finger very rigidly hooked, touching the trigger. pull forward on the rifle with your left arm, until the trigger is operated by the rigid digit. With practice, the recoil will jerk the weapon back far enough to move the trigger back off the rigid digit, and the forward pull (which you are constantly applying with the left hand) will, when the recoil ends, pull the gun forward and pop off the next shot, and the next... kind of cycling it, eh? Works best with a slick polished wood stock and a wool sweater sleeve and right hand glove to eliminate friction as the weapon slides back and forth an inch or so. By the way, the aim is terrible, don't do this because, standard disclaimers, it is stupid and dangerous. You can empty a 5-round mini-14 magazine in less than a second though, and certainly make people wonder. ===Mil-Veh is a member-supported mailing list=== To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: <mil-veh-off@mil-veh.org> To switch to the DIGEST mode, send e-mail to <mil-veh-digest@mil-veh.org> To reach a human, contact <ack@mil-veh.org> |
