| Civilians | All of the early M series vehicles till I believe 1955 were produced with only on a single rear tail light and no turn signals. This was true of commercial trucks also. My M-211, a friends M-35 and another's M-211 that are in original conditi= on (read as not attacked by the civilian sector or zeroed by Uncle Sam) all only have single tail lights and no wiring I the harness for the second. Of course it does. I wou= ld not be able to register it in NY State if it did not. I have added (manually-operated) back-up lights, and have all the gear ready to instal= l, to add a limit switch to the gear shift to make them operate automaticall= y. The state does not require them, but I added them for convenience and safety. I have also added clearance/markers, and conspicuity tape, to mak= e the truck DOT compliant. It was not necessary, as it is registered as an historical vehicle, but prudence dictates an occasional expense. Are you aware of any M-series truck that is not equipped with stop, turn = and brake lights? I am not. You claim that "deuces" do not. (CCKW's do not. M135/211/35 do.) I have never seen an M-series deuce, 5-ton, or ten-ton that did not. Please explain your concerns more explicitly. apb ----- Original Message -----=20 From: "Paul Farber" <farber@f-tech.net> To: "m35products" <m35prod@optonline.net> Cc: "Military Vehicles Mailing List" <mil-veh@mil-veh.org> Sent: Friday, September 10, 2004 4:07 PM Subject: Re: [MV] Movement to ban private ownership of MVs gains momentum > m35products wrote: > > >David, old friend: > > > >I sometimes post off-topic messages, and sometimes respond to them. > > > >I always obey the licensing, insurance, traffic, and common sense rule= s, and > >always complain about thems who don't. > > > >Is there a place for me in your Utopia? > > > >apb > > > > > >----- Original Message -----=20 > >From: <DDoyle9570@aol.com> > >To: "Military Vehicles Mailing List" <mil-veh@mil-veh.org> > >Sent: Friday, September 10, 2004 2:29 PM > >Subject: [MV] Movement to ban private ownership of MVs gains momentum > > > > > > > > > >>Over the years through this list I have made many friends, and have > >> > >> > >learned many things about the private ownership of military vehicles. = I > >hope to remain in private contact with these friends over the coming years. > > > > > >>However, it seems that private ownership of military vehicles in the = US is > >> > >> > >doomed. > > > > > >>Many of these historic machines are larger and heavier than the avera= ge > >> > >> > >passenger car, and an abundance of caution must be used in their operation > >to insure the safety of the general public.
