| Civilians | I am not much of an a/c mechanic - that said - I purchased a 3/4 ton GMC at city auction two years ago, did not have a/c - I am a large fellow, live just outside Memphis, Tn, this is work truck so I spend time in it each day I took to a local a/c shop and asked about installing a/c -- was told I could get same as truck had in it when new, same controls everything, came as a kit from GM - in March when I had it put in I regretted the money I had spent - in August it was worth every penny. My thought is that perhaps a/c unit from one of the imitation Humvee's that GM makes might fit a real one Everette ----- Original Message ----- From: "Teena Gravitt" <tgravitt@chattanooga.net> To: "Military Vehicles Mailing List" <mil-veh@mil-veh.org> Sent: Wednesday, July 20042004 10:28 PM Subject: [MV] Air condition in a Humvee Anybody installed air conditioning in a military Humvee? I'm thinking about this for my 5 Ton but it's=20 going to be a longer wait and probably a spring=20 of next year project. Buy a compressor, fit it to the belt/mountings as=20 traditional. Find a correct size AC coil and fit=20 it either in the engine compartment or down low=20 under the vehicle in a protected place with it's=20 own electric fan. Find a compact multi layer heat=20 exchanger that can fit inside one of the Heater=20 blower packages or make up a double size heater=20 blower package that will allow the inclusion of a=20 flap for selecting heat or AC for the flow path=20 of the air. Add an additional switch for the AC=20 compressor's clutch and a push/pull handle for=20 the blower package's flap. That would work well I think, and look bloody stock. -- -- Ryan Gill rmgill@SPAMmindspring.com ---------------------------------------------------------- I speak not for CNN, nor they for me. They have a number of different ways to skin the cat with back wall, under dash, roof and bulkhead mounted units, and they can be split up with compressors and other bits in different areas. http://www.rdac.com/prod-cat.html These folks have some interesting components that might allow some neat modifications.
