Post WWII Armored Strategy

Hello I would like to know about the strategy and tactics used by tank crews during WWII. I am sure that they didn't just drive around with no direction and shoot at whatever they saw. How were tanks, assault guns, etc. used and how did they work with artillery and infantry?

Google provided few results and those results were a bit over my head. I just want to know the basics. Any help would be appreciated.
