Default Crescent on C-rats

Does anybody know what the crescent on a box of C-rats stood for and its origins? I am interested in this since I have seen what most markings were, but not the crescent. Thanks

Post Re: Crescent on C-rats

Goes back many years used to belong to the Department of Commissary & Sustenance. The symbol ment an item for human consumption. It was used for A. Fast identification and B. For folks who could not read. This is a Black Crescent.
