How are you trying to insert them? Are you using Insert > Movies and Sounds >
Sound from File? Or are you trying to attach a sound to an animation or a
transition? In the latter case only WAVs can be used.

Go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe and click on OK. Open one of the MP3s
and try to play it. Does it play? PowerPoint doesn't use WMP or Winamp.

What is the source of the MP3? Did you create it or rip it from a CD, or did
you get it someplace else? PowerPoint uses Windows mplay32, so if it won't open
it, PowerPoint won't be able to. These aren't from iTunes are they?

Well, something has changed. Maybe you installed a media player that trashed
the settings in Windows. See

tables of settings in section 3 to those on your system. Are they identical?
