| Civilians | I have an animated gif file that works fine when I view it with a standalone viewer, but when I plug it into a PowerPoint presentation it does not animate. When I distribute the pp presentation, other users see a whitespace with the message: "Quicktime and a GIF decompressor are needed to see this picture" Even those who have quicktime installed on their systems. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what can be done about it? Many Thanks! Mark |

| Civilians | How did you create the GIF? Usually when this message occurs, it means that QuickTime compression was left on when exporting/saving the image. I'd suspect that's what's happening here. Turning off the QT compression should take care of the issue. -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com presenter, PPT Live '04 Oct 10-13, San Diego http://www.powerpointlive.com "Mark Findlay" <mfindlay@speakeasy.org> wrote in message news:%23N3FGnZTEHA.3944@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > I have an animated gif file that works fine when I view it with a standalone > viewer, but when I plug it into a PowerPoint presentation it does not > animate. > > When I distribute the pp presentation, other users see a whitespace with the > message: > > "Quicktime and a GIF decompressor are needed to see this picture" > > Even those who have quicktime installed on their systems. > > Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what can be done about it? > > Many Thanks! > Mark > > |

| Civilians | Actually it may be due to how we were bringing in the gif file. When we inserted it via Insert-Picture-From File then it didn't work. But when we inserted is as a Clip-File, then it worked. Strange! | Civilians | Hi Mark, Animated gifs are considered "movies" rather than pictures. That's the reason why they didn't work right when inserted as pictures. -Jim Gordon Mac MVP All responses should be made to this newsgroup within the same thread. Thanks. | Civilians | That might be so for PowerPoint on MACs, but on PCs the normal way to add an animated GIF would be via Insert > Picture > Picture from File. GIF's are not really movies. They are a small collection of GIF images with header information on how to display them sequentially so they appear like a flip book or cartoon. -- Sonia, MS PowerPoint MVP Team Autorun CD software, templates, and tutorials http://www.soniacoleman.com/ "Jim Gordon MVP" <goldkey74@WarmerThanwarmMail.com> wrote in message news:%23bCNbrcTEHA.2416@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > Hi Mark, > > Animated gifs are considered "movies" rather than pictures. | Civilians | Hi Sonia, As far as playing the animation in PPT itself on a Mac, the animation plays whether or not it is inserted as a picture or as a movie. Since insert as picture didn't work, I thought trying it as a movie might be an alternative method. I don't have a Windows computer handy to test my suggestion, however. -Jim -- Jim Gordon Mac MVP MVPs are not Microsoft Employees MVP info http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Quoting from "Sonia" <scds@nowherebuthere.com>, in article #zYTLxcTEHA.2416@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl, on [DATE: > That might be so for PowerPoint on MACs, but on PCs the normal way to add an > animated GIF would be via Insert > Picture > Picture from File. | Civilians | I just tried it and you can enter a GIF through the Movie from File dialog box. I guess it doesn't matter. However, when you do so, it activates the Picture toolbar. Schizophrenic application. <G> Jim Gordon MVP" <goldkey74@WarmerThanWarmMail.com> wrote in message news:BCEFF71B.C1CE%goldkey74@WarmerThanWarmMail.co m... > Hi Sonia, > > As far as playing the animation in PPT itself on a Mac, the animation plays > whether or not it is inserted as a picture or as a movie. > > Since insert as picture didn't work, I thought trying it as a movie might be > an alternative method. > > I don't have a Windows computer handy to test my suggestion, however. > > -Jim > -- > Jim Gordon > Mac MVP > > MVPs are not Microsoft Employees > MVP info http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ > > Quoting from "Sonia" <scds@nowherebuthere.com>, in article > #zYTLxcTEHA.2416@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl, on [DATE: > > > That might be so for PowerPoint on MACs, but on PCs the normal way to add an > > animated GIF would be via Insert > Picture > Picture from File.
