desktop at a 90 degree angle

Which display card do you have? For NVIDIA GeForce4, try the following:
1. Launch "Display Properties" applet (right-click on the desktop, select
"Properties" menu item).
2. Select "Settings" tab.
3. Click "Advanced" button.
4. Select "GeForce4" tab.
5. On the left pane, select "NVRotate" item.
6. Select "Landscape (0 degree rotation)".
7. Click OK.
