| Civilians | I've just got my first PDA, a Dell Axim X30 wireless model. The wireless connection is giving me grief. When I connect to the cradle, everything Internet related works just fine, web browsing, email, newsgroups etc. When out of the cradle and using the wireless link, only a select few websites work, eg news.bbc.co.uk for some reason. Nothing else works, no messenger, no outlook, no web. When on wireless I can ping my gateway (wireless broadband router) and other PC's on the network so I know the link itself is working. Can anyone shed some light on this? My only thought is that it's DNS related and somehow caching the IP of web sites I visit, but this theory doesn't get me anywhere :-( DNS is supplied by DHCP, I've also tried hardcoding the DNS IP address) |

If so, you might want to double check the WEP key on the Pocket PC if it's typed wrong you can see behavior like this. Hope this helps, Brad -- Brad Isaac editor-in-chief, http://www.pocketpcaddict.com |

| Civilians | I think it's router related as well. if your running static ip's verify that and the mac addresses are correct on your router. me, I would start simply by disabling WEP/WaP enable broadcast of your ssid and disable ip and mac address filtering and start from there. mike "Brad Isaac" <admin@pocketpcaddict_stopspam.com> wrote in message news psbts6p06tap0ll@blarneystone.belkin...> On Tue, 27 Jul 2004 21:45:44 +0100, Simon Geary <simon_geary@hotmail.com> > wrote: > > > I've just got my first PDA, a Dell Axim X30 wireless model. | Civilians | I'm running DHCP and the pda gets its IP address just fine and can ping the router when running on wireless. I'm using WEP but know the key is good as I can surf some sites on wireless after I first connect to them over the cradle. | Civilians | Does it get the appropriate gateway address and DNS address(es). If you don't have vxUtil and vxIPConfig from www.cam.com, I highly recommend them. They are free, and I get the impression you would know what to do with them. I agree that it is not a key problem if get a valid IP via DHCP, you can get to some sites, and you can ping the router/gateway. Another possibility is going into connection manager and the 'set up my proxy server'. It often helps to check 'this network connects to the internet', even if you are not using a proxy. -- Sven, MS-MVP Mobile Devices "Simon Geary" <simon_geary@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23qxOFVMdEHA.3632@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... > I'm running DHCP and the pda gets its IP address just fine and can ping the > router when running on wireless. > I'm using WEP but know the key is good as I can surf some sites on wireless > after I first connect to them over the cradle. > > "mike" <batuckan1@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:eMwbGJFdEHA.3616@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > > I think it's router related as well. > > if your running static ip's verify that and the mac addresses are correct > on > > your router. > > > > me, I would start simply by disabling WEP/WaP enable broadcast of your > ssid > > and disable ip and mac address filtering and start from there. > > > > mike > > > > "Brad Isaac" <admin@pocketpcaddict_stopspam.com> wrote in message > > news psbts6p06tap0ll@blarneystone.belkin...> > > On Tue, 27 Jul 2004 21:45:44 +0100, Simon Geary > <simon_geary@hotmail.com> > > > wrote: > > > > > > > I've just got my first PDA, a Dell Axim X30 wireless model.
