Default Newbie Help

I run a woodwork manufacturing company and have been having trouble getting Project to do what I need. Is the following example possible?

I need to cut 400 boards. I have a saw that can cut 10 boards and hour. I need project to tell me what the duration of this task will be given the resources I assign to it. Can I set up a total amount of work and a resource that has a fixed unit/hr rate with Project?

I want to know when I need to throw extra resources at a project to finish ontime.

If this is a double post, I appologize in advance. My previous posts weren't showing up.

I would suggest creating a Fixed Unit task with Effort
Driven flag set "on" for a Duration of 5 days. When you
assign a Resource to that task at 100%, it will compute
40 hours of Work (400 boards divided by 10 boards per
hour). Now, when you add another resource (assuming you
have another saw to use), it will split the effort and
give you two Resources at 20 hours of Work, recomputing
the Duration to 2.5 days.

Is that what you want to do?

Default RE: Newbie Help

Not exactly. I want to be able to tell Project that saw#1 can output 10 boards per hour, and I want Project to tell me that it will take 5 days at 8 hrs a day. Kind of backwards from what you described. Is this possible?

I have a larger operation, this is just a small example to get me on the right track.
