Default Buyer Beware! FYI Ipaq 5555, PC Card sleeve and Pharos CF GPS reciever

I bought an IPAQ 5555 today... I got it because that was the only one in
stock that supported the expansion sleeve that I needed for my Sierra
Wireless 750 PC card.

I already had a 3600 with a PC card sleeve, worked fine... But I wanted more
<g>.

With the 3600, it was an either or situation. Either I had WiFi access or I
had GPS access. I wanted to have both!

The Pharos GPS CF card will not fit into the 5555 with the PC card sleeve!

The internal fixed 802.11b wireless antenna sticks up so high that the
Pharos GPS CF card with PC card adapter will not insert into the PC Card
slot (single) all of the way!

Without the electrical connection... No Signal!

A double PC card sleeve might work, but I don't have one to try.

I was considering a BlueTooth GPS device to use with my PDA and laptop
anyway, but wanted to inform anyone else they might have an issue with
geometry using this combination!

As far as I remember the 36xx sleve is not compatible with 38xx, 39xx, 54xx & 55xx.

For what it's worth, part of Betty's brain is a Pharos CF card (with
adapter) in an expansion sleeve for PC cards with my iPAQ 5555. Works like a
champ. One difference between my setup and Jim's below (and what he
mentions) is that I do have the double expansion sleeve as Betty keeps other
parts of her brain (the maps) in a memory card in the front slot. I've never
reversed the two, but can see how the GPS card might conflict with the iPAQ
antenna if I did.

Sure they are. There are some issues with the bluetooth sleeve but as
far as I know, all other sleeves work fine. I speak from experience.

Except for some of the bluetooth sleeves, all sleeves were
interchangable with the 3100, 3600, 3700, 3800, 3900, 5100, 5400 and
5500 devices. They would have worked with the 5600 had that ever been
released.
