Post Will we need a Science forum?

At this point, Science in all its myriad fields is tucked neatly in with Computers and Technology. Looking there, I see many different fields represented within that Science heading. It's too small at this point to cut into fields, but should we be thinking about that -- and what those fields should be? Or is Science field enough?

If you think it may be needed, what fields withing the overall topic do you think may generate more interest? I see we're covering a great many scientific areas and thought perhaps we should start thinking about it, if only to take it off the list of possibilities for the foreseeable future.

By a science forum, are we suggesting a serious forum or just one for exploration of subjects on a very introductory level? I am concerned that if we continue to compartmentalize we will continue to see a drop-off in users overall on the boards - and that does not make for good "community" because everyone is segregated by individual interests rather than unified by a ready exchange of ideas and exploration. I would tend to not want one, not because of the choices given above but rather I personally believe that anything that does not BUILD a sense of community amongst the Trackpad members, tears it down and weakens the other parts of the board. I think Jason has put so much of his heart and soul into this place that to not see it reach full potential because it was too divided would be very sad and a loss for all of us who enjoy this house that Hannibal has built for us.

Could we not just change the Computing and Technology to Science, Technology and Computing?

A lot of stuff of scientific interest comes in as news in any event.

It was that in the beginning, but the science got lost in the Technology and Computing which is why I put Science in it's own forum so just science stuff went in it.

Check it out. We have science forum as a subforum of Computing and Technology. You're right in that they all go together because science uses computing and technology.

Um, do a science forum and keep the computing and tech forum, I don't know what the CaT forum is about, but the science should be openly informing and subject to disagreement. I didn't even realize it was there. If anything the CaT should be a sub-forum. Sorry, I'm not a geek, but that's my $.02
