[Discussion] Trackpads Awards and Contests

I have been working on this for sometime but havent yet had the time to implement it fully. Once we get an awards moderator for the MSDIV I plan on rolling this out.

This is basically two ideas in one, an awards system and a contest system.

Awards System

The Awards system is just that, awards. You will earn little ribbons and medals and will have them displayed in your postbit and in your public profile. You will also be listed on a page displaying all awards.

These awards will be little replicas of medals but we will design them ourselves. The will be given for various reasons, some serious, some not so serious. A good example would be site service, promotion to high usergroups, donations given to the site, winning a member contest, volunteering on the site etc. There will be an awards 'board' that will review all requests and recommend approvals. This will to ensure some sanctity in the process.

What are you ideas?

Contests

The second idea is that of having contests on the site where the public community would nominate and vote for winners. A perfect example is a Member of the Month/year contest. Another would be for Best Gallery photo or a video or anything else.

Winners would/could receive a Trackpads Award (as outlined above) and/or incetives such as T-Bucks or other prizes. I have already decided that the Member of the Year is going to get a plaque with a real Trackpad

Who will make the recommendations for awards, would it be the DC, ADC, or any member? I like the concept and it is something that people will look forward to.

Just off the top of my head, another award could be for recruitment of new members, either monthly or quarterly.

I like the idea of an awards board to filter them. I hope that it can have permanent seats for staff (perhaps Div Cmdrs rotating on a couple of seats?) and some elected positions that rotate say, every 6 mos?

Perhaps one of the first contests could be naming the Trackpads Newsletter? Would the Member of the Year be picked from the Member of the Month?

We could have contests for most referrals to our site, most patriotic avatar, best designed avatar, the avatar most representative of the member (I would nominate Pickerfromhell), categories for the different signatures, etc. Personally, I would stay away from 'most posts.'

Would staff be ineligible? Might be a good idea.

I'll give it some thought on other competitions and contests.

I agree with everyone else. Thing is, we need to work on what they look like etc etc. You know what my answer was 3 months back!

Sounds like fun. Descriptive Avatars would include that of Phoenix too, I think.

I have mostly liberal friends. Joan and one other are about all I know who may be interested in Trackpads. The others are the kind of liberals you all have been faced with in "that other site," and trust me, you would not like them. Some of them I'm not all that fond of, but those happen to be relatives.

Still, I'll think about it..
