Should Trackpads be for Adults only?

I have been considering this for several days ever since we found a user that looked like he was 9 years old. Pretty sure someone was playing with the birthday feature but I have had some chats with the staff and some serious thought over this.

COPPA rules dont apply to Trackpads because we do not specifically cater to children under the age of 13 as required by law. More about COPPA:

So the question I have been debating is whether or not to just declare Trackpads an 18 and over site and be done with it. There would be no change really but it would make everyone less timid over subjects etc. While I dont see a major change in our forum and posting policies (nudity etc) I do believe that we could let down some of moral policing that we have had to do.

Now dont get me wrong, I am not opening a military adult website (Tplayboy?). This is more or less a sea change on how we operate in broad general terms and in our future decision making.

I do not see the problem the way it is with 13 and up. I feel that kids even up till they are 18 shold be monitored on the internet by a guardian anyway. I feel if they fin this site by accident there is nothing to contraversially bad that tehy may see. If they become a member so long as they are 13 or up like the standard is now I do not see a problem. Either way they could lie about their age if they wanted too. I say leave it as it is. Just my 2 cents.

The posting would be a sort of CYA thing? A good idea, since we can get quite 'adult' at times.

True but declaring it is as 16+ or 18+ would provide some 'cover' I think legally.

We are an adult site when all is said and done. Do we really want the restrictions that having kids in here would put on us?

I voted 18 and older, simply because it is the most likely thing to do: most sites don't allow kids. If kids want to join, let them get a note saying so, I know that LA daughter uses the arcade, but we know LA. It think from a legal stand point the least of the neccessary evils comes from not having kids . . . just my $0.02!!

I think it should be restricted to 18 and over - the legal cover can be very necessary, IMO. We can't do the restricting other than stating it, and as Connie says, we can be very "adult" at times!

But you have to consider that I'm probably the oldest person here; it's a different generation. We knew it all by 13; but we still were protective. My kids the same - your generation for the most part, or your parents' generation.

I've wondered about this from time to time.
