Nine suspected insurgents captured Nine suspected insurgents captured Jan 5, 2005 CAMP RIPPER, Iraq -- Elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted three operations during the past 48 hours that netted nine suspected insurgents throughout the western Al Anbar Province.
In Sa'dah, Marines and Soldiers conducted cordon and knock operations that detained six suspected insurgents involved in improvised explosive device and mine emplacing activities.
Meanwhile, the MEU's reconnaissance Marines, supported by light armored vehicles, detained two individuals after the Marines conducted a limited-scale raid in Hit to disrupt insurgent activities.
Elsewhere in the Al Anbar Province, Marines observed seven individuals
emplacing improvised rocket-rail systems near their position and requested close air support. Three 107mm rockets, with time delay devices prepped for launch toward Camp Korean Village, were destroyed.
The Marines proceeded to a housing complex, where they detained one
military-age-male and discovered a weapons cache that consisted of four AK-47's and 2460 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
All operations were completed without any casualties.
The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit continues to enhance security and
stability to the Al Anbar Province in advance of the upcoming Iraqi
elections. |
