Marines See Progress In Al Anbar Schools

May 30, 2004

AR RAMADI, IRAQ -- The Fallujah Water Department Manager delivered a project proposal to Marine engineers to improve the availability of clean drinking water to Fallujans.

The project, valued at $1.6 million calls for the installation of five compact water treatment units surrounding Fallujah.

In addition, The Fallujah Power Distribution Manager delivered a project proposal for electrical distribution in the city valued at $1.8 million and a paving project was proposed at an estimated $900,000.

A Civil Affairs team near Ramadi checked on a number of school projects to assess quality and timeliness. Their findings were encouraging.

One team visited the Rafidon School to check on roof renovations. The project was moving according to schedule and the team delivered payment of $7,700 for work already completed. An additional payment of $1,300 was made for work being performed on another school. The projects are expected to be complete in five weeks.

Inspections were also carried out at the Makarama School, where two additional classrooms are being built, at the Marafa School to check on a concrete slab project, and a bridge construction project.

A civil affairs team visited the Ramadi Trade School to check on renovations there. The work they found was excellent. They also checked the work at the Al Shqaaq Junior School that was being performed by the same contractor. The work there is progressing.
