Default Help identifying belt buckle

I unearthed a belt buckle back in 1975 with a metal detector.
See photos of it at http://buckle.photosite.com/
Can anyone help me identify what exactly it is and when it is from?
Thanks.

It looks like a Union Officer(Cav?) Buckle from the Civil War era.

Bridel rosette. It went on the side of the horses head and kept the top
strap from the bridel. One on each side.
