Exclamation Pakistan's troubled tribal belt - interactive map

This interactive map was published today by Council on Foreign Relations (yes, I know some people think they are part of a conspiracy to "overthrow the government" ), dealing with Pakistan's tribal problems, in the context of its surrounding area.

Kinda interesting...

"In the years since 9/11, Pakistan’s border region near Afghanistan has become a source of tension with Kabul and drawn U.S. concern that the area serves as a terrorist safe haven. In 2007, under pressure to stop militant incursions into Afghanistan, Pakistan began constructing a fence on selected areas of the 1,600-mile border, known as the Durand Line. But the boundary established by Pakistan in 1949 was never recognized by Afghanistan and has long been disregarded by tribal clans in the area.

Click the map legend to explore."

" 'Promise me one thing,' he said: 'If I die, don't go on TV and criticize the war... Don't go Cindy Sheehan on me. And don't let my boots be used in one of those anti-war demonstrations.' "
