United States Treatment of Soldiers "Stateside"

I returned from Iraq in May 06. After a few weeks of readjusting to people and large crowds (still having issues), I ventured to Walmart. During my trip their, a lady noticed my tan t-shirt. She asked if I was a Military member, I stated yes. The lady, mid-20's and single, began to tell me how terrible of a person I was and that everything I stood for died in the 60-70's. I stood there for about 10 minutes of her passionate conversation. The store manager came forward and there were roughly 50 people standing there listening. She finally made her point and began to walk away. She stopped turned and walked within 3 feet of me and spat on my chest. I sat there, actually in shock, but not saying anything. I am not a small man. Any move would have been seen as taking advantage. I looked down, smiled and informed the lady that would be my badge of hohor to display her saliva on my chest. That she should actually thank me and every other Military member for giving her the opportunity to do so, that if it was Iraq...she would have a vail on and would have most likely be killed for the action. She then began cursing me. My last comment to her as the police were taking her away (the Store manager called them on her and put the store off limits to her) was to cotinue working at her job and paying taxes. that not only was she financing my way of life and supporting the Services Members but she was also keeping the Police financed and occupied.

People do not realize what the Armed Forces members are going through.

Please shake the hand of a Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, Coast Guard or Marine whenyou can. tell them they have done a great job!!!!

I agree 1000% of what Katie said. It made me mad as back when I was in and it still makes me mad. IMO, they should pass a stiffer law against abuse like that.

My 20 year Hat is off to you, and all our service-members where ever they are.

Many Americans seem to forget so easily what a service-members has done for them and our Great Nation. I need to find a poem, I've have that talks about our constitutional rights, I believe its called Thank a Soldier.

That is just sad. To think these people believe they have the right to treat a soldier like tells me everything I need to know about that sector of society. That goes for the vast majority of them and I have no problem generalizing at all.

You are a much better man then I am too sir.

And thank you for your service me and my family thank you. Since our troops have been deployed in 2002 I have slept at night peacefully and we have not been attacked. Can’t say that we never will be but I know if it happens it is not because of the lack of vigilance from our soldiers.

Well you're a far better person than I am, BWood. I'd had her in a choke hold after the first sentence...and I'm just a civie. If anyone ever says anything like that to my Marine, he'll be bailing me out of jail. That's just a real sore spot with me...always has been. I grew up in the early 70s, but was raised to respect and appreciate the men and women serving. My children have been raised the same too. God bless you!
