![]() | I was wondering so thought I would ask the guys in the military or out for that matter. Would there not be a way to equip on our APC/Hummers etc. a device that either jams radio controled IED's? Or send our a multi-spectrum frequency of some type to set off IED's before getting close to them? Perhaps that would just cause all kinds of communications problems though was not sure.

| NCO ![]() | I know the British Army tried it for years in Northern Ireland when fighting the IRA. A lot of the IRA IED's were wire controlled. The rememberance day massacre in Enniskillen was supposedly set off by a British Army Transmission (That was one of the IRA excuses for the atrocity) I know that when we (the Irish Army) attend EOD callouts all our radio ops are told NOT to transmit any radio messages until the EOD officer gives the all clear. The Irish Army use the SINCGAR system so there is a possibility that its Frequency Hopping system may set off a radio controlled device. Last edited by milmor_1; 09-29-2006 at 14:04. | Enlisted Warrior ![]() | In Northern Ireland we used a number of electronic counter measures to disrupt the IRA's efforts to kill us, I remember the brick commander carried the White Sifter unit and the Antler system was large, heavy and carried by the least unpopular member of the team on that particular day! |

| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | There are several devices in use over here. For OPSEC reasons I will not go into detail on how they are used. I will let you know that they are reasonably effective. However, remote/radio controlled IEDs are only one of the many types of IEDs we face. |
