Default Cheesy effects in HL2?

I've been watching the demos

http://www.sierra.com/file_list.do?gamePlatformId=470

and couldn't help notice how the crowbar smashing things look like -it's
sort of like crap. Sort of a Duke Nukem/Tekwar level. EVERYTHING else
looks totally awesome. I hope they fix it before they release it.

I tend to defend HL2 in all area's but I must admit I agree with your
whole heartedly. In Half-life1 you definitely felt like you were
breaking something which was fun and great for frayed nerves.

"Confutatis maledictis" -- when the wicked are
confounded. "Flammis Acribus Adictis." How would you
translate that?
Consigned to flames of woe.
Do you believe it?
What?
A fire which never dies, burning you forever?
Oh yes.

It depends on which demo you watch...the one with the matress at the top of
the stairs has an awful sounding crowbar but the one with the used saw
blades has a crunching wood splitting sound that's even better than HL1
