Default BFV: Objectives and having fun

Caution:
This will be a very stupid post for most of you out there, but please
keep in mind that I am a Battlefield-series newby. No patience? please
move along!

Intro:
When I started playing on-line I first played a lot of Counterstrike
(until over-balancing and bunnyhopping killed it for me), followed by
a bit of Day of Defeat and later a lot of Enemy Territory. Then I saw
BFV in the store. I had heard a lot of good things about Battlefield
1942 but never got to purchasing the game. Being able to operate
vehicles really appealed to me so I immediately drew my wallet.
Installing the game I read the manual and felt a lot of
disappointment. For one, I finished reading it before the game was
installed; not a good sign. At first I thought the features of the
game were a lot more limited then I initially thought. Later I found
out that this is far from the case: a lot of things are apparently
assumed to be common Battlefield-game knowledge.

Objectives:
How does scoring count in this game? How do you win? In day of defeat
your side wins when all flags are captured. Capturing all flags in
this game is not the ultimate goal: it's considered unsportive and
obviously not what the creators had in mind (IMHO your side should
just win in this event: gg & the end, next round please). Sometimes my
side controls most flags and still manages to get a minor defeat?

Playing:
Playing to win is very hard for me since I'm not sure how winning
works! I once got in first in my team by concentrating only on taking
over enemy flags (25 pts) and having inflicted a whopping total of 0
frags. When playing BFV I'm just out there to have fun, and a lot of
fun I do have! I still can't beleive the addiction. Just a small
selection from the top of my head of things that gave me that
special** feeling:

- I saw someone who apparently just found the horn on his scooter.
Honking like mad he drove happily around a couple of teammates
(including me) having fun like a 4-year old kidd.
- I saw some guy jumping into a jeep, a second one entered in the
mounted gun position and a third probably thought: 'what the hell, why
not' and got in aswell in the passenger seat. Not the best stratigy
IMHO. In voiceteamchat I said: 'gogogo!' and immediately he flipped on
the radio and went cruising down the open road (A well aimed rocket
ended the fun after about 200 yards).
- I was driving in a tank and hooked up with two other guys in tanks.
They were driving along and apparently firing at random. I joined in
their fun and turned on the 'surfing bird'. They did the same
instantly. "deja vu"

Please feel free to share and post your tales.

**In the end, it's all a bit disturbing! How is it that I can have
this much fun with a recreation of this contemporary dark episode of
humanity? Has anyone tried to explain the appeal to his
wife/girlfriend? Maybe in the far future history will state that the
Vietnam war was staged by the entertainment industry, if only to ease
the mind of people enjoying BFV.

You get points for kills and capping flags. If you capture all flags, you
don't automatically win. The goal once capturing all the flags is to hold
them. The numbers on top of the flag are tickets, or available deaths per
team. Once you get all the flags, the ticket will "bleed" faster, meaning
the tickets will count down faster than normal (like when a person dies).
Once the tickets hit zero, it's all over.

He was probably 4 years old in reality. Sometimes they start young.

That's why I don't like to jump in a vehicle with more than 1 other person.
It's an irresistable target.

I tried to explain it to my iguana but he just looked at me as if I were
stupid.

Jeez, I hope not.

I would strongly recommend buying Battlefield 1942 and updating all the
patches for it. It's the game that started the whole craziness. You can
also download Desert Combat mod and play with modern tanks and weaponry.
It's more addictive than sugar coated crack.
Enjoy the game. And check out the AGB BFV server sometime. Not always full
but it does have players who enjoy teamwork.

Buy it. Really. BFV is awesome, but BF1942 is the better game.

>How does scoring count in this game? How do you win?

Ticket count. Each team starts with a number of tickets, and when
you reach zero, you lose. Each kill is a ticket, but (depending on
what map you play) holding a majority of controlpoints also makes
the other team lose tickets. So, in order to win, it is important
to kill anyone who's trying to kill you, but it's even more
important to take all controlpoints. If your team has all
controlpoints and every enemy soldier is dead, your team wins.

you need to capture the flags and hold those positions until your
oppositions ticket number reaches zero.

Capturing all flags in

i concentrate on getting flags and i get a few frags in here and there. i
usually end up in the top 3 for my side.

My wife doesn't care. She's tickled pink that i rush home from work
everyday, do the manly chores around the house, then play a few games. I
don't hunt/fish/go to sporting events, bars, etc. She knows where i am every
evening and is happy with that. Also, My 21 motnh old son loves to sit on my
lap while i play and yell "BOOM" everytime i blow up a tank.

The objective in both BF1942 and BFV in conquest mode is simply to make
your opponent's tickets (those numbers up there in the top right of the
screen) reach zero before yours do. The enemy team will lose tickets
when the majority of the flags are yours - the more flags you have over
the enemy the faster their tickets will fall. For every soldier KIA a
ticket is also lost for their team.

Your individual score is comprised of;

2pts per flag captured
1pt per enemy killed
-2pts for suiciding

(IIRC - someone who knows will be along shortly)

This is why you scored the best - you concentrated on flag caps which
yield the highest scores.

In BF:V you get 1 point for turning the flag white and 2 points for
capping it(turning it into your flag).
