Default Impressions of the New Forgotten Hope Build

Thought we might express some collective opinions on your personal thoughts
on the latest build of the Forgotten Hope mod.

Whew! Sure is lethal, isn't it? You can die right quick. The sounds are very
nice. I didn't have as much time as I wanted to thoroughly eamine it. It was
odd that I had no crosshairs in my tank. Some getting used to there.

You sure die fast, I know that. Dunno how "fun" that is, but it is
authentic.

I came away with the impression of .. given the choice between Battlegroup
and FH .. for playing a "game", I think I'd have to stay with Battlegroup.
Problem is, of course, Battlegroup just isn't that popular. We just couldn't
attract a crowd when ran on our server, many nights with 12-15 members
already in and playing. Nobody joined.

You sure die fast.

:-)

What's your thoughts?

JB

A few friends can't run .61 and are getting CTD's so I have
not installed it yet (am witing till they figure out why
The older .5 versions of FH seemed okay as far as deaths
and thought there were tank sights (been more than a few
months since played). My impression of the older version was
much along the lines of BG42, kind of a BG40.
If they changed it much then it may not be as fun to play as
BG or EOD. AGB ran BG on and off and had same trouble
with not enough interest, barely filling the server 1/2 full
typically.

If you change the camera-view (nosecam, I think) you'll get a nice
aim-thingy.

Which is is a real shame, I'd be in favour of replacing vanilla with
Battlegroup on Uno permanently if there was more interest. Really. More
maps, WW2 theme and the flyboys don't dominate.

IMHO, it's (one of) the best mods available at this moment. I just played a
few maps and it rocks!!! Great sounds, authentic weapons and very nice maps.
FH beats BG on multiple aspects. Just a few observations (which make me
think that this must be Villy's Mod):

1. Fighter planes (often) have no bombs or just one or two (250 pounds, 500
pounds etc)
2. Planes are 'only' part of the game. No domination from above whatsoever.
3. Assault class has a 'short distance' gun (sten, thompson, mp40) or a long
distance rifle.
4. Support class with more powerful guns like in DC, EOD, but must go prone
before aiming right.
5. All kinds of fixed or deployable guns like the nebelwerfer (what a
sound), the 88 and various cannons. Some cannons can be towed to their
position.
6. Put your speakers to the max, enter a katyusha, fire away ... and you
have an idea how the soldiers back in '44 must have felt standing between
dozens of stalin organs going off at the same time.
7. Maps are better than most Vanilla maps. Omaha beach is really tough and
Arnhem looks far more authentic (only one bridge).
8. Various tanks no longer have a crosshair but use a different kind of HUD
when pressing F9 = nose cam, so we shouldn't turn NC off.
9. Fixed machine gunners are better protected and tougher to take out.
10. Some extra vehicles are implemented as if they just walked out of Secret
Weapons (scout helo, snow scooter etc)

Since your easy to kill, or kill another soldier yourself, you'll have to
adapt your strategy. Run 30 mtrs in the open and chances are that you won't
make it to your destination. Instead, watch closely .. run ... duck ... wait
... run ..take cover .. etc ..etc This is not a kind of MOHAA or COD game
where you can run-and-gun and live.

It seems that several people have different kind of problems, like not being
able to view the stats, or video probs. I didn't encounter any problems at
all and I'm sure I'm gonna spend _a lot_ of time on this game. We just
needed this impulse for WWII based games. Thumbs up!!

Hehe. Try 'Video-clips' and almost at the bottom of the loaded frame you'll
find 'Nebelwerfer'. Now that shouldn't have been too hard ;-)

Hey
yes after uninstalling old FH and finally installing the new 0.61 i am
really amazed. Really.
everything is more realistic and more intense. But for one thing, it
is truly horrible to die so quick.
Example. Omaha Beach. Once out of the boat, headshot. This experience
i had several times. Not that it gets annoying, but you will loose
sometimes to get up again.
But anyway its fun.
I like the sounds and everything around. especially that you have to
group yourself to a strategie. Or you will be dying quickly.
So far, FH is my choice of play.
