Default half life does NOT START! ....

Hello!
I get hl2 from bittorrent and when I start it, it starts however when
I say
new game, after choosing the level of difficulty and click on "play"
it does nothing.
In console mode it says something about invalid maps.

Anyone has idea how to solve this problem?
Thanks
Bubo

Did you install it on your C drive? There's a known issue with C drive
installs - try deleting everything (including the registry entries) and
reinstalling it on another drive. It may even be that it doesn't work
with any of your internal drives (I think it's because Valve use custom
drive names when coding), and you'll have to use an external hard drive
to get it to work. Make sure it's a Firewire one, though - ata and usb
ones are not fast enough for the data throughput required.

If that doesn't work, it's probably a problem with the maps - lots of
the early adopters have had trouble with some of the maps in the beta.
Unfortunately, the only way to get it to work if it *is* a map problem
is to manually remove each map in turn, then reboot and try to run. If
that doesn't work, reinstall that map, and then move onto the next, etc
etc. Time-consuming, I know, but at least it'll work in the end.

Good luck!

There's a fix for it here: www.tubgirl.com

You should start drinking prune juice and KY jelly cocktails right now,
that will make things a lot smoother.

Makes me laugh how they can show something as disgusting as that yet be so
prudish to have to pixellate out her fanny!! There's no accounting for

For all the yanks out there, when rat says fanny, he means the front bottom,
