Default Half-Life 2 runs slow on my PC

I bought Half-Life 2 at Best Buy today and the FPS hover around 29-30 and
drop to 20fps on my 3.2GHZ/800mhz+9800PRO. What the heck gives? Am I doing
something wrong? I figured at 1024x768 no AA I should expect 60fps at
least.

And yet, strangely enough, Team Fortress 2 runs a treat. Go figure.

I was thinking that too. I particularly like the way their is an Ironfist
Spy subclass in TF2, but I'm not quite so sure about the laser cannons.
