Default Steam video problem

OK, I've dragged myself away from the ailing WON and installed steam. Seems
ok so far as I've managed to get online and play a game but it only lets me
do it in software mode which is very painful on the eyes. I use a Ti4200
which did the job perfectly on the won servers but every time I connect to a
game it only plays in software. I've tried altering the video options to
what I'm used to (OpenGL, 1024x768 and 32bit colour) but it pops a box up
saying the mode isn't supported.
Any ideas please?
Cheers

S'ok... I knew what he meant ;-)
Still don't work though.. latest Nvidia drivers and DX9. Steam still insists
that the video mode is not supported! ;-(

Oh another note...

I also installed steam....as won ends soon.

So far I have enjoyed 200 pings and reduced framerates (also the order of
buy menus changed, deagle 1-4, 3-1 is tmp not mp5 wtf!).

Main problem is lag or is this just normal on steam.................

Least 1.5 has a few days left I guess.
