Default help

Im having a problem with half life. I cant get it bright enough.

Im using an ati all in wonder 128 pro card with the latest drivers for
windows 98.
Opengl works fine but is dark in alot of maps. what is strange is that some
maps are very bright but in buildings it gets very dark.
Ive tried d3d but keeps saying the video mode is unsuported

First of all, i'd say don't bother with D3D.. generally OpenGL is faster
& more reliable.. secondly, the brightness thing.. I don't think
theres alot you can do about this except for whacking up the monitor
brightness.. i've used all sorts of video cards over the years, and I
always just shut my curtains and turn off the lights when I want to play
HL or any other OpenGL game.. I think OGL is just naturally a bit too dark.
