Default Doom 3 beats HL2 out the gate

Doom 3 has gone gold and will ship on August 3.

http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/boa...threadid=50067

Looking forward to it, if not as much as I look forward to HL2.

Mike

I've never been a big fan of ID's games (except maybe Q2 in
multiplayer).. this one could be the one to change that.. or if not,
it'll keep me going for a couple of months while we await HL2 :-)

Was never much of a quake fan myself, would still like to complete Q2, but
it got a bit boring, and at the time I was out in the sticks with a crap
28.8 modem, so MP was out of the question. By the time I got a better
connection found I'd long since lost the cd.. or loaned it to some B**tard
who never gave it back, whatever.

Doom, however, well

One of the first times I ever played MP = Doom 2! (ok, 2 player) FPS, at Uni
in the early '90's, couple of 386's (?) some nicked phone line cobbled
together and badly soldered to a couple of RS232 serial connectors.

Don't remember any ping or packet loss problems however, how times have
changed

PS
None of the above is proven totally accurate - or even slighty accurate,
it's been over ten years.... etc. etc....

I remember trying out Doom multiplayer via null modem link on a pair of
486DX66s, it was OK - although we had Duke Nukem 3D and Command and
conquer waiting for us to play aswell, so Doom barely got a look in.
Gotta say that Duke3D was an absolute blast to play, doom seemed a bit
average in comparison at the time... packetloss wasn't really an issue
for us either, although for 2 people, a port speed of 11500 over a
distance of 3 metres was quite enough :-)

Yikes! It's going for $54.99 on Amazon US. HL2 is still under the $50
dollar mark. Oh, if you order both of the games together, you save a
whole $5.50! :-)

Ironically, I'm playing Doom/Doom 2 at the moment, using Doomsday with
3D models and hi-res textures, and it's a lot of fun. Doom 2.5, kinda.
