What noted U.S. flood on May 31, 1889, took some 2,200 lives? 8. Name the top-selling, packaged cookie marketed in the U.S.A. 9. What is the spellout of the famed initials VFW? 10. "Stagecoach" is seen as John Wayne's first starring film role in 1939, but the Duke had played a major role in another film as early as 1930. Can you name it? Answers 1. Delaware was the first of the 13 colonies to ratify the separating document; Rhode Island was the 13th separating state. 2. The list, according to the time of their approval, is Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island. 3. Utah, our 45th state, made that effort. Deseret means "Land of Honeybees." It was admitted as Utah in 1896. 4. Alaska is the largest in area; Rhode Island is the smallest. 5. Hawaii, our 50th state, joined the nation as a state on August 21, 1959. 6. The Hindenburg blew up in Lakehurst, New Jersey. 7. It was the tragic Johnstown flood in Pennsylvania. 8. It's Nabisco's Oreo Cookies. 9. VFW means Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. 10. The Duke's earliest full-length appearance was in the film "The Big Trail."
