![]() | Im looking to reenlist and Im going for CONUS station of choice Ft. Knox. Im just wondering if anybody on here is stationed there now. What I am hoping for is a position as Cadre for the 1ATB, or maybe the 16th cav. I am currently a SGT and will most likely be SSG by the time my current deployment is up. At Ft. Hood the routine is go to the field, gunnery, NTC, year in Iraq, field, gunnery, NTC year in Iraq. Knox is close to home and after 2 tours in Iraq im thinking I need a break. Is there anything I can do other than CONUS station of choice to help get a job as an instructor?

| Enlisted Warrior ![]() | Knox is an okay post if you want to take a breather for awhile, or if your close to retirement. Word to the wise stay away from 16th Cavalry, especially 1st Squadron. If your there and able, take advantage of all the courses available military training like Master Gunner School, Instructor Tng Course, and Civilian education as well. Good Luck there!!!! |

| Enlisted Warrior ![]() | Paul, I just registered here on trackpads and I noticed your request. I've been her for 4 1/2 years all of which at 1st ATB (now the 194th ATB). They need instructors pretty bad especially if you are a 19K. If so, chances are good that you will go to 2/81. Also, they're really looking at cross training young NCO's from Kilos to Deltas ( I'm sure you you are tracking that) as well as certifiying you on the Stryker. FT. Knox is the place to take care of your civilian and military education - take advantage of it! Please let me give you one bit of advice; do not become too complacent with the lower stress environment! Being an instructor has many advantages - like not getting shot at for one! However I have personally seen five very good NCO's get into trouble and loose or damage their career. The primary rank of all of those NCO's were SGT/SSG.I do wish you the best of luck. Feel free to reach me if you need some help getting around!! |
