AMERICA'S WATERWAY WATCH
New York - The United States Coast Guard has implemented a program that allows mariners and recreational boaters to help identify and report suspicious activities on America's waterways.
America's Waterway Watch outreach program was established February 2005 as a result of the attacks against our Country on September 11, 2001.
This voluntary nationwide program provides the Coast Guard with another tool to help protect and secure our ports and waterways.
The National Response Center has been established to accept, analyze and respond appropriately to the information provided by the public. The toll free numbers are (800) 424-8802 or (877) 24-WATCH.
One phone call from a concerned person may be all that's needed to help prevent a future act of terrorism.
In the event of an emergency that requires an immediate response continue to contact local authorities at 911 or via channel 16 on marine band radio.
For more information, to receive brochures identifying some common suspicious activities, or to arrange for a Coast Guard speaker at your Club or Civic Group, contact Senior Chief Petty Officer Lawrence McDonnell, America's Waterway Watch Program Coordinator, Coast Guard Sector New York, at (718) 354-2126.
