Sir William -

Did or does the USCG use any form of the F-4 "Phantom" a/c?

Hi Blue,

Nope, the only jet we use(d) was the Falcon Jet for long range search and rescue spotting. I will say that I saw two of them up very close once. A very interesting experience. We were off the coast of New Jersey near McGuire AFB harassing Russian ships who just had a little to many antennas up for innocent fishing boats. We were amongst 20 or 30 of them.

Well the old man decided to fun with the Russkies a bit and called McGuire. Within minutes two phantoms came roaring out to assist us in the harassing effort. One flew toward us at bridge level. Man what a roar that engine produced.

"Falcon", meaning F-16?

Those F4's are great. Bill flew the F-4E at Soesterberg AFB (The Netherlands) and the F-4C in the Ore Guard.

The Coast Guard Falcon used for recon flights, drugs, etc. I havea photo but its not uploading to the site. Picture a White Lear jet with the Coast Guard racing stripe just behind the cockpit. Personally as far as jets are concerned, the phantom is my all time favorite US JET fighter. I really like WW2 Navy aircraft the best. But the Phantom F 4 is a sight to behold.

It is. It just looks lethal and effective, and is.

My favorite though remains the F101 Voodoo. I loved it when it would take off and then almost immediately climb up. Great to watch them land...hot and fast. My boss had the squadron under him so I was able to go to the flightline with him and watch at times.
